Common Payment Methods in Korea

In Korea, most people use credit cards or mobile payments.

 

  • Credit & Debit Cards

    • Widely accepted (Visa, MasterCard, JCB, AMEX, local cards like BC, Shinhan, etc.)

    • Most shops, restaurants, and even taxis accept cards

    • Contactless and chip payments supported

  • Mobile Payments

    • Kakao Pay, Naver Pay, Samsung Pay, Apple Pay (increasingly popular)

    • Convenient for locals and now some tourists as well

    • Often used for online purchases and in cafes or convenience stores

  • Cash (Korean Won - KRW)

    • Still accepted everywhere

    • Useful for small shops, markets, and some traditional restaurants

    • ATMs available throughout the city, many offer foreign card services

  • T-money (Transportation Card)

    • Prepaid card used for subway, buses, taxis, and some convenience stores

    • Can be recharged at subway stations and convenience stores

    • Also works on airport buses like the 6011

  • Bank Transfers (for locals)

    • Common for online shopping and business transactions

    • Not typically used by tourists
